One World TB Summit at Varanasi

On Friday (24 March 2023), Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. In addition to addressing the One World TB Summit, he will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various projects worth over Rs. 1,780 crores.

One of the projects that Mr. Modi will initiate is the construction of a Passenger Ropeway that will stretch from Varanasi Cantt station to Godowlia. The ropeway will be a unique facility for pilgrims, and will make India the third country in the world, and Varanasi the first city in India after Bolivia and Mexico, to use ropeways for public transport. The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 645 crores and will be 3.75 km in length.

The ropeway will have five stations, including Cantt Railway Station, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Rath Yatra, Church and Godowlia, and cover the total distance in 16 minutes. About 150 trolley cars will run from a height of about 50 metres, each capable of carrying 10 passengers at an interval of every two minutes. This means that up to 3,000 people will be able to travel in one direction
